A simple flakie manicure with ILNP Electric Carnival. This is a multichrome flakie polish in a clear base.

The base colour is definitely the best neutral / cool-toned nude that I’ve found – it works so well with my skin tone.  Most others look too pink or orange once they are on.  It’s really difficult to tell from the bottle, I have quite a few that I thought would be good and look awful. It’s also opaque in a couple of coats, which is pretty awesome for a nude polish.

But anyway, on the main show… Look at those fiery colours! It’s hot pink and orange and gold and green, and teal at the very edges. This is only one coat, it’s a dense flake in a clear base (and not too thick, so easy to paint).  The flakies are very metallic, unlike a traditional flakie, like Essie Shine of the Times for example, which are translucent. That link takes you to a comparison of a few different flakies including this one.

Flakies like this look best over a contrasting colour, like this nude or the swatch over black that I linked to above. I don’t often go for a nude nail, I guess partly since it took me so long to find a good one. But I think this one works because the flakies are metallic and the pink tones in the flashes of colour and the base are complementary. There are a whole range of these types of polishes from ILNP and other indie makers, in a whole range of colours.  This one is almost a complete rainbow in a single bottle.
